The Diviners - Libba Bray “There is nothing more terrifying than the absoluteness of one who believes he's right.” The Diviners is a very impressive book. It had all my favorite elements! Supernatural beliefs, the story was set in the 1920's and it had brilliant characters. The story is about superstition, beliefs, religion and hope. In New York everyone is different and everyone is running away from their past. I took a long time with this book and I read certain pages again and again just to swoon at Libba Bray's writing. Writing a horror story is very difficult. Sometimes, the book never scares you but the movie does. Or it's the other way around. The Diviners did scare me a little bit so I quit the habit of reading it during the night. The main reason is that one cold stormy night, while I was reading the Diviners, my whole family asleep, the calender I hung in my room dropped to the floor and at that exact moment my dad started snoring loudly and I was reading a very spooky part at that time. It freaked me out. I had lots of trouble sleeping later on.So, I took my own time with it, savoring each and every word. I found the characters to be very different and lovable at the same time. Believe me, I didn't love all the characters, just a few nice ones. I was definitely spooked by Naughty John who is the terror part of the story. So, I would advise you not to read it during the night unless you don't ever want to sleep peacefully. Or if you want Naughty John come knocking at your door. Just kidding. "People will believe anything if it means they can go on with their lives and not have to think too hard about it." Evie, Memphis, Sam, Will, Jericho, Theta and Mabel were all awesome! Evie was the main character and I simply adored her! She was a very strong, brave and independent girl who loved to live her life to the fullest. She also has a secret. Which I'm definitely not going to reveal here. Memphis, Sam, Jericho and Theta are all very mysterious especially Sam. I loved them all! Each one was so different that the characters never felt left out or seemed like a waste. This book never disappointed me. I also didn't know there was a sequel to this book and I'm head over heels for the next book! I will miss these amazing characters but one day I will be reunited with them again! “People think boundaries and borders build nations. Nonsense-words do. Beliefs, declarations, constitutions-words. Stories. Myths. Lies. Promises. History.” One amazing book you wouldn't want to miss!
